![]() ![]() ![]() EQ and DSP can mean the same thing, and I’m sure you are getting good results but there is definitely a level further that can be achieved by harnessing some deeper knowledge. If you want to learn more about acoustics (and why EQ can never really substitute for treatment) I’d recommend the John Sayers forum and the Master Handbook of Acoustics as great starting points. Not even double gyp with green glue, let alone isolated foundation and double wall sand filled block like I would spec for an iso booth in a recording studio. 9 times out of 10 when someone says they isolated their theater they mean they put dynamat in before a single layer of gyp. Realistically it’s rare someone is willing to pay for what it takes to really do a room correctly in their home. I do predominately custom integration now as well and all the same principles apply. With that said background music systems often benefit from a healthy dose of DSP and I do utilize it where appropriate.Īgain this isn’t to take away from what anyone is doing, just the truth of how the highest fidelity playback is achieved. When acoustic treatment is not practical or in budget eq is often the band aid used, but it rarely gives satisfying results when critical listening is the objective. I’ve been building concert venues, commercial recording studios, and high end two channel systems as a career for about 20 years, so I do know what I’m talking about here. You are correct that they are often used to build a house curve, but I was talking about a no holds barred approach where the preferred method of building a house curve is a combination of speaker selection and varying the input gain of each band of the crossover ( or simply the input gain of the tops / subs in a passive crossed over system ). Any basic acoustics text will confirm this. Need music? Try /r/audiophilemusicĮq is simply not capable of correcting for room deficiencies beyond a single listening position.
